Rohan Palace (Archaeological Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Decorative Arts)

The Palais Rohan in Strasbourg was built between 1732 and 1742 according to the plans of Robert de Cotte, the King's First Architect, at the request of Cardinal Armand-Gaston de Rohan-Soubise, prince-bishop of the city. Inspired by the grand private mansions of Paris, this episcopal palace embodies the excellence of 18th-century French architecture, both through the classical majesty of its façades and the richness of its interior decorations, which have remained remarkably intact since its construction.

Designed, decorated, and furnished in just ten years, this architectural gem stands out for its exceptional stylistic unity, preserved to this day.

Since 1889, it has housed the Museum of Fine Arts, followed in 1913 by the Archaeological Museum and in 1924 by the Museum of Decorative Arts.
