Roman Fountain (washhouse)
Located just below the town hall, this sandstone washhouse bears witness to the commune's past. It is fed by two springs whose waters gush from the bottom of an underground tunnel dug since 1537 beneath the hill. At that time, two vaulted galleries were built to capture the water and direct it to a basin. The current washhouse dates from the 19th century.
A local legend associates this place with the mysterious appearance of a Roman soldier. According to villagers' accounts, footsteps can be heard echoing in the galleries, approaching the entrance. A silhouette then appears behind the bars, which are locked, and it is said to be a Roman soldier silently saluting. This phenomenon reportedly only occurred before the wars of 1870, 1914, and 1939.
The image of the Roman soldier is explained by their historical presence in the region, often near water sources like the washhouse's spring.
