Rosteig

The history of this village community dates back to the village of Kalenberg, founded in the 10th century and now disappeared. In 1577, the Count of Hanau-Lichtenberg ceded these lands to Jean-Georges Bernhold, commander of Lichtenberg Castle. The current coat of arms of the commune preserves this historical connection.

Glassmaking activity marked the local history with the establishment, in 1630, of the first glassworks by Jean Stenger. Abandoned in 1730, this facility served as the basis for the Hochberg glassworks, located in Wingen-sur-Moder.
