Rue du Sauvage

In the 19th century, this shopping street was the beating heart of Parisian department stores, with the Globe remaining the last active witness today.

Despite urban transformations, it has preserved the elegance of its past through superb historic facades, such as the 18th-century Hôtel Vogel.

The Art Deco building now housing the FNAC adds a modern touch to this architectural heritage.

The street also carries the history of a notable figure: it is the birthplace of Captain Alfred Dreyfus.

Its current name, evoking the former inn "À l’homme sauvage," hides a lesser-known anecdote: it was reportedly renamed "Adolf Hitler Strasse" during the Occupation, provoking mockery due to the irony of this reference.
