Saint Adelphe Church
Between 1196 and 1202, the Bishop of Strasbourg entrusted the parish church of Wittenheim and the chapel of Kingersheim to the Augustinian nuns of Schoenensteinbach. At the end of the 12th century, this chapel, dedicated to Saint Adelphe, received a relic of its patron saint and attracted many pilgrims. In 1829, it was established as the parish church of Kingersheim.
Between 1859 and 1861, Saint Adelphe Church was rebuilt according to the plans of architect Jean-Baptiste Schacre, replacing the old chapel.
It is notable for a clockwork system of which only two examples exist in Alsace.
Inside, a Madonna and Child statue, classified as a historic monument and commissioned in 1515 by the Schoenensteinbach convent, is a remarkable treasure.
This statue was even exhibited at the Louvre Museum.
In front of the church, an artificial grotto was built in 1919. It was constructed as a token of gratitude by the inhabitants of Kingersheim, who had promised to erect it during World War I if their village was spared.
