Saint-Denis Chapel

The cemetery chapel stands out for its architecture blending two styles: a Romanesque nave dating from the 12th century and a Gothic choir. Inside, the sexpartite vault, built in 1225, is the oldest of its kind in Alsace. Dedicated to Saint Denis, it was once an important Marian pilgrimage site in the region.

The interior and exterior walls incorporate numerous tombstones, reflecting its historical role.

Among its artistic treasures, a 15th-century altarpiece, attributed to the Colmar painter Martin Schongauer, is particularly notable. When closed, it depicts the Annunciation. When opened, it reveals a Virgin and Child accompanied by Saint Catherine of Alexandria and Saint Barbara.
