Saint George Church

The Saint George Church is distinguished by its imposing Romanesque bell tower, featuring paired windows and topped in 1530 by four chestnut wood watchtowers, likely intended for surveillance. The nave and choir, rebuilt in 1759, house nearly intact original furnishings. Inside, several elements deserve attention: the Silbermann organ from 1765, little altered and restored in 1973; the processional cross made of rosewood and mother-of-pearl from 1763, originating from the Franciscan convent of Sélestat; and an incomplete 15th-century Holy Sepulchre. There are also tombstones of Châtenois bailiffs dating from the 16th to 18th centuries, and four polychrome relief paintings inspired by Albrecht Dürer. Two of these, created around 1520, adorn the altarpieces of the 18th-century side altars, while the other two, contemporary, are set in frames from the same century.
