Saint James the Greater Church

In 1720, the first Catholic church in Aubure was established, with a nave dating from that time. Its choir, sacristy, and part of the bell tower were added during an expansion in 1813, while the upper part of the bell tower was built in 1859. On the side of the building is a 19th-century sundial, once used to adjust local clocks that were not very accurate by tracking the sun's movement. Inside, the church houses a remarkable altar dating from the second quarter of the 18th century, believed to come from the Cistercian Pairis Abbey, dismantled during the French Revolution. This altar is distinguished by finely carved decoration: a Baroque-inspired Pietà in relief (circa 1500), framed by four cherubs. This work is inspired by an engraving by Hans Collaert, a 16th-century Antwerp sculptor who was himself influenced by Michelangelo.
