Saint John of Nepomuk Statue - Saint-Jean Hamlet

This 19th-century statue, originally installed on the Ill bridge in Meyenheim, was moved in 1906 and then erected in 1909 on the grounds of the Saint-Jean Farm in Ensisheim. Its concrete base bears this date. It is now located south of the town, near a bridge crossing the Ill River and the Sentier de l'Ill, a marked walking and cycling route identified by a blue diamond, which runs alongside the waterway on shared paths.

Carved from pink sandstone in the round, it depicts Saint John of Nepomuk, recognizable by his canon's robe. He holds a crucifix and the palm of martyrs in his arms. This saint, one of the most venerated, is notably the patron of boatmen, bridges, priests, and all those whose profession or activity is connected to water.
