Saint Joseph Church

The influx of Catholic workers who came to work at the Mulhouse Workers' City prompted the construction of a new church, as the city only had two at the time.

Funded by a land donation from Jean Dollfus, the project's initiator, the church was consecrated in 1883 and placed under the direction of Abbé Cetty until 1918.

Its architecture reflected the industrial world of its parishioners: its metal structure evoked factory workshops, while the absence of a forecourt prohibited gatherings after services. Featuring an imposing bell tower-porch, it had a majestic appearance, although its style and practical constraints somewhat disappointed the faithful.
