Saint Margaret Church

The church of the Oelenberg priory, located near Mortzwiller and Soppe-le-Haut, is a building steeped in history.

In 1768, it was decided to build a new church while preserving the original bell tower, dating from 1469.

The interior decoration was entrusted to the painter Johann Pfünner, who created the altar paintings, including an oil on canvas depicting Saint Margaret.

These works were replaced in 1888 by those of the Swiss painter Henri Kayser during a major restoration of the church.

However, Pfünner's painting was restored and returned to its original place in 2001 during an interior renovation.

The organ, built in 1846 by Ignace Callinet of Rouffach, is inspired by the one in Soppe-le-Bas.

The entire building is listed in the inventory of historic monuments, highlighting its heritage importance.
