Saint Martin Church in Rangen

The church of Rangen first appears in texts in the 11th century. It was then under the authority of Hohengœft, then Zeinheim. Its architecture preserves traces from different eras: the tower-choir, a remnant of a 12th-century place of worship, reflects the Romanesque period. The nave dates from the 18th century, as indicated by the 1868 date engraved on the west entrance door, marking a restoration of this part of the building. Dedicated to Saint Martin, the church also houses sculptures recalling its Romanesque origin, including a carved head reused in the north wall, nicknamed "the Roman." A fire in 1980 caused changes inside the tower, without altering its historic character.
