Saint Maurice Church

This church, built in 1763 in a Baroque style, is a classified historic monument. Its symmetrical façade is topped by a central bell tower, while a niche above the portal houses a sandstone statue of Saint Maurice, depicted as a Roman officer, typical of the Baroque period. Inside, a polychrome wooden statuary group from the 16th century, also a classified historic monument, represents Christ and Saint John in an original posture where the latter, asleep at the feet of Christ in majesty, symbolically evokes the soul under divine protection. This iconographic theme, which appeared in the 15th century, is enriched here with a later and more expressive composition. The Holy Cross altarpiece, dated from the late 17th century and probably of Swiss origin, is also classified. It depicts Saint Francis of Assisi supporting Christ in its central niche. The main altar, made of gilded wood in late Rococo style, dates from 1780 and is a classified historic monument. The gallery organ, in Empire style, was made in 1856 by the maker Georges Wegman from Strasbourg. Its case with Baroque sculptures is inspired by the Canticle of the Three Children.
