Saint Maurice Church of Willgottheim
The bell tower of the Saint Maurice Church, built around 1170, is one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in the Kochersberg region. This tower, consisting of four levels, is distinguished by its three lower floors decorated with Lombard arcades, a style reminiscent of the façade of the Marmoutier Abbey. The original nave, dating from the 12th century, was rebuilt in 1494, as evidenced by the framing of the south door. However, due to its advanced state of disrepair, it was decided in 1730 to replace it entirely. The work was completed in 1732, giving rise to a new nave. This was then enlarged by an additional bay on the west side between 1828 and 1829. Finally, in 1904, consolidation and restoration work was undertaken to preserve the entire building.
