Saint Morand Priory

Founded in 1105 by Frederick, Count of Ferrette, this priory was entrusted to Abbot Hugh of Cluny. From 1106, Saint Morand established the Benedictine rule here, leaving his mark on the region through conversions, healings, and miracles over ten years. Upon his death in 1115, he was buried in the priory church, which then took his name. Canonized at the end of the 12th century, he is now honored by a recumbent effigy and a reliquary donated in 1428 by Archduke Frederick of Tyrol.

The priory, open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. (with a mass on the last Sundays of the month at 6 p.m.), still houses these historical artifacts. Acquired by the town of Altkirch in 1828, it now serves as a hospital after renovations and expansions that allowed its transformation while preserving its heritage.
