Saint Nicholas Church

As early as the 16th century, a first chapel is documented in Urbeis.

In 1665, a chapel dedicated to Saint Nicholas is mentioned "at the top of the village," likely near the old cemetery.

In 1752, a new rectangular building was erected in the village center, on the site of the current church.

This building, still dedicated to Saint Nicholas, was demolished in 1789.

Despite the revolutionary troubles still distant in the valley, the inhabitants then decided to build a new sanctuary. To do so, they recovered stones from the ruins of Bilstein Castle to erect this place of worship, which still stands today.
