Saint Pancrace Church Dangolsheim

Perched on a height in Dangolsheim, the Saint Pancrace Church has overlooked the village since the 13th century. Originally a Romanesque building, probably constructed by the Schwartzach Abbey, only its Romanesque bell tower remains from that first period. In 1522, a Gothic church was begun, of which only the choir remains, attached to the medieval bell tower. Surrounded by a fortified cemetery, the current church features a single nave and five bays. Its portal, a rounded arch with double molding, opens onto side walls pierced by rounded arch windows. The square-plan bell tower rises over three levels, the top one illuminated by paired rounded arch windows. Enlarged in the 19th century in a neoclassical style, it houses a Stiehr organ from 1848 as well as baptismal fonts dating from 1729.
