Saint-Urbain Fountain in Rouffach

The Rouffach fountain represents a bridge between history and modernity.

Created in 2002 by sculptor Jean-Luc Schické, it is inspired by the former bed of the Ohmbach stream.

Its reddish night lighting echoes the town's Latin name, "Rubeacum," meaning "red water."

The bronze statuettes adorning it recall a local legend: in 1699, a year marked by a poor grape harvest, the inhabitants, out of frustration, reportedly plunged the statue of the patron saint of winemakers into the public fountain.

The water jets animating the fountain symbolize both the ripples caused by this act of rebellion and the surge of innovative ideas that now energize the town of Rouffach.
