Saint Wendelin Church
Perched on a hillside overlooking the Tilleul square, the Saint Wendelin Church in Albé was built in 1752.
It replaces an earlier church mentioned as early as 1341 under Bishop Berthold of Strasbourg.
In 1575, during Pentecost, a severe fire ravaged the village, destroying 45 houses and the religious building.
The current church was rebuilt on the site of the medieval chapel affected by the fire, with only the base of the tower preserved after partial demolition.
Inside, the choir stands out with its vault decorated with motifs dedicated to the Sacred Heart, a devotion that spread at the end of the 17th century.
The altar, typical of the 18th century, features an antependium richly decorated with stylized leaves, garlands, and scrolls, reflecting authentic Baroque aesthetics with its characteristic asymmetry.
The Albé church was equipped in 1839 with a Stiehr organ, whose pneumatic part was installed in 1918. In 1970, the instrument was modified by Schwenkedel, who notably replaced the facade with a new zinc one while preserving the original case.
