Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc Church
The foundation stone of the Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc Church was laid in 1933, and the building was blessed in 1935, but the decorative work was only completed in 1956.
Designed by architect P. Kirchacker, this reinforced concrete construction embodies the architectural and decorative trends of the interwar period. Its style sharply contrasts with earlier places of worship, notably through its exterior elevations with geometric shapes and its slender bell tower adorned with angels, reflecting Art Deco influence.
Inside, this style is found in the neo-Byzantine decorations, visible in the choir lavishly decorated with gilding, the octagonal dome resting on stepped pendentives featuring the symbols of the four evangelists, as well as in the main altar topped by a canopy with a painted vault imitating mosaic. The stained glass windows, depicting the apostles and the life of Joan of Arc, were created between the 1930s and 1950s.
