Sainte-Madeleine Church
The church of Steige, with its bell tower incorporated into the facade, now exudes a sense of strength and calm. However, its construction in the 19th century was far from peaceful. As in other communities, deep divisions arose among the inhabitants: some wanted to enlarge the old church, while others advocated building a new one. The debates, sometimes violent, even led to the dismissal of the municipal council in 1854. Despite the high cost burdening local finances, mainly dependent on forestry revenues, the second option was ultimately chosen.
