Sainte-Marie Church
Betschdorf is a charming Alsatian village, recognizable by its typical 18th-century half-timbered houses. Its Sainte-Marie church, classified as a historic monument, combines a 15th-century Gothic choir with a nave rebuilt in the 18th century. Inside, three medieval frescoes, painted around 1400 by an anonymous artist, adorn the vault and walls. Among them, the Eucharistic Mill stands out as one of the rare representations of this type in the world: only thirteen churches still have one, including two in Alsace, those of Betschdorf and Hohwiller. These works, including the Lamb of God and the Last Judgment populated by 64 figures, testify to a richly detailed medieval sacred art. The stained glass windows, signed by Alsatian master glassmaker Tristan Ruhlmann, elegantly complete this exceptional heritage.
