Sainte-Marie Church

The first Sainte-Marie Church was replaced in 1770 by a new building, which was itself destroyed during World War II. The bell tower collapsed on February 4, 1945, at 9:30 a.m. On May 19, 1957, the cornerstone of the current building was laid. Constructed in concrete according to the plans of architects Baur and Muller, it is inspired by the “Perret line,” featuring a bell tower separate from the main nave. Several works of art from the old church were reinstalled here, such as a statue of Saint Erasmus, a 16th-century Lamentation of Christ, and 18th-century paintings by Bulfer. The building was consecrated on June 28, 1959, during the “Renewal Festival.”
