Sanctuary of Our Lady of Dusenbach

Perched in a green setting in Alsace, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Dusenbach has attracted pilgrims, tourists, and hikers for centuries.

Its history dates back to the early 13th century when Eguenolphe de Ribeaupierre brought back a statuette of the Virgin and had a chapel built in gratitude for her protection during the Crusades. This act marked the beginning of a pilgrimage tradition that extended far beyond Alsace's borders, reaching neighboring Germany.

The site consists of several remarkable elements. The large church, the heart of the sanctuary, is surrounded by the Chapel of the Virgin, which includes two side chapels: one houses the Holy Sepulchre, the other the Tomb of Our Lady. A Way of the Cross, used by the faithful to reach the sanctuary on foot, winds through the surrounding nature. A shelter dedicated to pilgrims completes these facilities, offering a place for rest and reflection.

Having become the most famous Marian pilgrimage in Alsace by the 17th century, the sanctuary remains today a prominent place of spirituality. Its buildings, owned by the Diocese of Strasbourg, continue a centuries-old tradition in a peaceful and inspiring setting.
