Sculptor Madame Suzanne CAPDEVIELLE
An ochre mud tracing a furrow in the Breton moorland, a vein of clay that fascinated him from childhood. Without tools, the artist discovered this unknown material, tried firing it in the fire, then returned to it later. The clay settled within him, waiting for the right moment to express itself again.
In 2007, he founded his workshop in Alsace and developed a unique expertise: matte glazes with subtle shades, repeated firings followed by controlled smoking, giving rise to stoneware in hues of slate, stagnant waters, ochre, or moss. Sometimes, he combines stoneware and porcelain, the powdery whiteness of the latter resting on the darker base. Gradually, steel and bronze joined his preferred materials.
His creations are divided into two worlds. First, figurative sculptures where the human body becomes a vessel of inner life, expressing states of searching, joy, or fleeting detachment from the world's contingencies. Second, black and white wall works exploring the theme of the horizon.
