Sessenheim

Sessenheim owes its worldwide fame to the romance that blossomed there between 1770 and 1771 between Johann Wolfgang Goethe, then a law student in Strasbourg, and Frédérique Brion, daughter of the village pastor.

This love story has left a mark on literary history.

Additionally, Sessenheim is the adopted village of Henri Loux, a painter long overlooked, whose work gained international recognition thanks to the typical tableware decorations called "Obernai." Today, many local restaurants or "Winstubs" serve their customers on these plates, where one can spot, within each design, a village, a house, or an Alsatian woman in traditional costume.
