Soultz les Bains
Nestled in a bend of the Mossig Valley, at the entrance to the Jesselsberg which shapes the sandstone and limestone hillsides, Soultz-les-Bains thrives in a setting of dry hills favorable to typical flora. This Alsatian village, with its first written record dating back to 708, shows signs of an even older occupation: Merovingian tombs discovered in its territory attest to a presence as early as the late 5th century. Its name, Sulz-Près-Les-Carrières, also recalls its role in the 17th century when Vauban exploited three quarries here to build the Strasbourg Citadel.
Soultz-les-Bains has built a reputation since the 14th century thanks to its waters with therapeutic properties. Today, the Sulzbad wellness and care center, opened in 1988, continues this tradition. The village also charms with its architectural heritage: the church, built in 1845, surprises with its ceiling shaped like an inverted boat hull, while its lateral bell tower, dating from the 19th century, dominates the building. Inside, a Silbermann organ from 1762 enriches the atmosphere.
An ideal setting for cycling enthusiasts, Soultz-les-Bains is located at the crossroads of two popular routes: the vineyard cycle route and the Bruche Canal, which leads to Strasbourg. The surrounding vineyard, crisscrossed by many marked trails, invites discovery of the Alsatian landscapes.
