Source of the Largue

The Largue originates in Oberlarg, in the Glaserberg massif, at 500 meters altitude, near the Swiss border. After a 46-kilometer course, it flows into the Ill near Illfurth. In the 19th century, this river powered 53 mills spread across 34 villages in the region, highlighting its past economic importance.

A few meters from its course lies the Mannlefelsen rock shelter. This site, of great archaeological value, features an 8-meter deep stratigraphy encompassing the entire prehistoric history of the Alsatian Jura.

However, it is important to note that the land is private and access to the site itself is prohibited. It can only be viewed from the nearby public path.
