Space
Jean-Pierre Raynaud, a French artist born in 1939 in Courbevoie, is internationally recognized for his creations, notably his flower pots and works in white tiles with black joints, which have become his signature.
In Mulhouse, he created Space, a public commission supported by the City and the State as part of a program aimed at enriching urban spaces with artworks.
This sculpture consists of eight white columns arranged in a circle and rising progressively according to a mathematical progression, as if drawn toward the sky. Minimalist and refined, it emerges from the ground and interacts with its environment, contrasting with the noise of the nearby highway. Even at night, it is highlighted by vehicle headlights.
For Raynaud, Space embodies an artwork, architecture, a signal, and a mystery, while creating a new public space conducive to reflection and freedom of thought.
