Spesbourg Castle
Built in 1247 to overlook the valley and protect the nearby abbey, this medieval castle is notable for its imposing 24-meter-high square keep and its inner courtyard. Inside, fragments of polychrome frescoes and sculpted fireplace capitals reveal an artistic refinement little known for the period, dating back to the 14th century. After a restoration campaign over the past twenty years, the site is now open to the public. To reach it by car from Barr, take the RD 854 towards Mont Sainte-Odile. After five kilometers, a left turn leads to the parking lot of the Hungerplatz Forest House. From there, a trail marked with a yellow disk allows you to reach the castle after about a twenty-minute round trip walk.
