St Bernard of Menthon Church

The church features a remarkable architectural ensemble blending two distinct eras. The choir, in Gothic style, dates back to the 13th century, while the more massive base of the bell tower is from the 12th century. These ancient elements harmonize perfectly with the nave, rebuilt in a neo-Gothic style in the early 20th century. This restoration work was guided by the ideas of Johann Knauth, then curator of Historical Monuments. The building was consecrated in July 1914 by Mgr Zorn de Bulach, coadjutor bishop of Strasbourg, during a ceremony that marked one of the last celebrations before the outbreak of World War I.
