St Gall Church
The church of Domfessel, built in the 14th century, is one of the finest examples of Alsatian Gothic art.
Probably constructed by Henry, the illegitimate son of the Count of Sarrewerden, it was originally Catholic before becoming Protestant during the Reformation in the 16th century. Its architecture still shows traces of its medieval defensive role, notably through its fortified tower and the remains of its enclosing wall, now partially visible.
Unlike many monuments, it has undergone few changes over the centuries, thus preserving a remarkable architectural unity.
Inside, the tower houses a watchman's chamber accessible from the church.
The building is open for self-guided visits throughout the year.
