St Michael Church
The church of Rhinau, severely damaged during the 1944 bombings, was rebuilt between 1955 and 1959 under the direction of architects M. Chuiot, Kuntz, and Schaetzel. Constructed with bricks and concrete, this new building symbolizes the balance between heritage preservation and the assertion of modern architecture. The cornerstone was laid in 1955, as evidenced by a cornerstone sealed at the corner of the facade. The official inauguration took place in September 1960.
To the right of the current church stands the choir of the old church, built from pink sandstone and inaugurated in 1540. This remnant, spared from the bombings of December 1944, now houses the war memorial.
The entire old church had been listed as a historic monument since 1935.
