Statue of the Blue Virgin

On the territory of Niederhaslach stands the statue of the Blue Virgin, recognizable by her blue cloak.

Created by the sculptor Rebel from Urmatt at the request of the workers of the Merigenau spinning and weaving mill, specifically the Mullerhof factory, it was erected in 1869. These workers, men, women, and even children as young as eight, crossed this path daily, regardless of weather conditions, to reach their workplace where hours stretched from six in the morning to seven in the evening.

The statue was offered as a sign of gratitude for the comfort the Virgin was said to have brought to these workers. Voluntarily restored by local residents in June and July 1991, it bears an inscription in Latin on its base: "Mary crushed the serpent's head. Never a sin stained her heart. Erected by the factory workers of Niederhaslach in 1869."

Some local stories also mention an evil past of the site, recounted by Father Kramer in his memoirs.
