Stengel Catholic Church

The Stengel Church in Eschwiller was originally planned to be built in Wolfskirchen, according to an agreement signed in 1766.

However, the residents of Eschwiller advocated for their village, arguing that Wolfskirchen then had only three Catholic families.

Moreover, Eschwiller, lacking any religious building, was dependent on the parish of Postroff.

Thus, Louis-Joseph de Montmorency-Laval, Bishop of Metz, decided to detach Eschwiller and Postroff from their original parish.

On February 27, 1772, when the belfry was equipped with two bells, Father Guillaume Léonard blessed the new church.

From then on, Catholics from Wolfskirchen, Eywiller, and Diedendorf came to celebrate their worship there.
