Strasbourg Mineralogy Museum
Established in 1890 in the premises of the Institute of Earth Sciences, within the historic campus of the former imperial university built under Wilhelm II, this museum is one of the most important outside Paris due to the richness of its collections, which include around 30,000 minerals.
Long dedicated to scientific research and the training of mineralogists, it originated from the Natural History Cabinet of a Strasbourg medical professor.
Upon his death in 1800, the city transformed the institution into a museum before dissolving it in 1880 in favor of the scientific collections of the new university.
Currently closed, the museum plans to reopen in 2027.
