Sundials - Jesuit Church

On the south face of the Jesuit Church in Molsheim, five sundials from the mid-18th century catch the eye. Four of them are engraved on the pillars of the facade, while the fifth is located on the sill of a window on the fourth floor. The first sundial, placed on the first pillar about 1.70 meters above the ground, measures 52 cm wide by 41.5 cm high. It declines towards the southeast and features very fine hour lines, ranging from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m., indicated by Arabic numerals. The second sundial, located on a small buttress, declines towards the west. It is finely drawn on a panel 58 cm wide by 42 cm high, at 1.60 meters above the ground, but its hour lines are barely visible and the style is missing. The third sundial, placed two pillars before the turret at 95 cm above the ground, also declines towards the west. Its panel measures 66 cm wide by 40 cm high, and the style is also absent. Finally, on the sill of the fourth window of the south tower, a horizontal sundial dating from 1727 is engraved.
