Synagogue
This building is the work of Alexandre Stamm (1835-1906), architect of the City of Sélestat since 1874.
Inaugurated on September 3, 1890, this synagogue is inspired by Rhenish synagogues with a centralized plan.
Its decoration, in a sober neo-Romanesque style, is distinguished by alternating courses of yellow sandstone and red bricks, enhanced with pink sandstone chains and frames, giving it a colorful and harmonious appearance.
Damaged by the Nazis in 1940, it was restored after the war, but did not regain its original dome.
During these works, the old ritual bath (Mikveh) from 1836, located nearby, was uncovered. Visits to this site are only possible upon request.
