Thanvillé

Perched at the entrance to the Villé valley, on the old salt road, Thanvillé charms with its cultural, historical, and natural heritage. The village opens onto a green and peaceful setting, ideal for a refreshing getaway in the heart of Alsace.

Its emblematic monument, the Thanvillé castle, is the only lowland castle in the valley. Originally built in the 11th century as a fortress for surveillance and toll collection, it was remodeled in the 17th century to take on the appearance of an elegant castle. Surrounded by a square courtyard and a distinctive gate tower, it is now open for guided tours revealing over a thousand years of history. In summer, fun activities are offered to children to make the discovery even more engaging.

Nearby, the German military cemetery, nestled in a green setting, offers a poignant place of remembrance. This site honors German soldiers who fell during 20th-century conflicts and invites reflection on the dark chapters of European history.

To explore the village differently, a heritage trail has been set up. This marked route allows visitors to stroll through picturesque streets, admire typical buildings, and better understand the strategic role Thanvillé played as a major communication route through the centuries.

Finally, garden lovers should not miss the Lilaveronica Garden. This haven of greenery and color, where plants and flowers mingle, invites relaxation and contemplation in a peaceful setting.
