The Balance Beam Wells
The balance beam wells, a technique mainly widespread in Central Europe, are rare in Alsace. Two of these traditional structures still exist in the region today. The first is located at Bussière-Poitevine Square, the second at the Town Hall Square.
Their operation is based on a counterweight system that makes drawing water easier.
Once raised, the water flows through a spout into a stone trough, which could also serve as a watering trough for livestock.
