The Bee Fountain

Located in a small park, the Bee Fountain, built in the 18th century, was moved to Haguenau in the 19th century from the Cistercian abbey of Neubourg, which was destroyed during the French Revolution. It now stands near the Saint George church.

Carved from sandstone, this fountain is notable for its quadrilobed basin and central pillar decorated with four cherubs surrounding a beehive.

This motif symbolizes monastic life, whose motto, "Ora et labore" (prayer and work), reflects the balance between spirituality and labor within Cistercian communities.
