The Belfry

A symbol of the city, this monument has played three major roles over the centuries: municipal belfry, strategic watchtower, and bell tower for the Chapel of the Virgin.

Built around 1285, the chapel was demolished in 1873, but its Gothic choir was preserved.

The current structure is distinguished by its slender spire, rising to 59.60 meters in height. Added in 1596, a gallery surrounded by bartizans crowns the building, offering both an aesthetic dimension and a defensive function.
