The Blade by Marc Couturier

Created in 1998 by Marc Couturier, "La Lame" is the second public contemporary art commission installed in Sélestat. This sculpture overlooks the forecourt of Saint-Georges Church, mounted on the gable wall of a medieval building, the former Latin School. A long form stretches out with a presence both calm and powerful, especially when the sun's rays make the gold leaf covering it sparkle.

Designed as a radiant blade, it illuminates and enlivens the forecourt space and far beyond. It seems to maintain a spiritual dialogue with the works of the nearby Humanist Library, located in line with a wall that once housed its collections.
