The Britzgyberg Oppidum
Perched in Illfurth, the Britzgyberg is a site rich in history, occupied since the Neolithic period and becoming an emblematic place of Celtic civilization during the first Iron Age in Alsace. Archaeological excavations have revealed the remains of a strongly fortified settlement, reflecting an advanced social and military organization. The numerous objects discovered, carefully preserved in the display cases of the Illfurth town hall, illustrate a dynamic artisanal activity as well as long-distance trade with Mediterranean trading posts, demonstrating the cultural and economic openness of this site during the Celtic era.
Today, Britzgyberg can also be explored through its landscapes. Crossed by the marked trails of the Club Vosgien, it invites peaceful summer walks under shaded vegetation, offering an experience that is both historical and natural.
