The Citadel Park

Built by Vauban following the surrender of Strasbourg in 1681, the citadel's main mission was to protect the Rhine bridge.

Before its partial destruction after the city's bombardment and its annexation to the German Empire in 1871, it was distinguished by its regular pentagonal layout, reinforced by bastions at each corner.

Today, the promenade park developed on its ruins highlights the picturesque contrasts between the slopes of the former military architecture, the water mirrors of the moats, and the surrounding greenery.
