The Donon, Sacred Mountain

Perched at 1009 meters altitude, the Donon overlooks the lower Vosges and marks the border between Alsace and Lorraine.

Since prehistoric times, its silhouette visible from afar has given it a sacred character, reinforced by legends blending myth and reality.

The Romans, drawn by its mystery, built a sanctuary dedicated to Mercury there.

Feared by early Christians, the site is said to have even inspired Victor Hugo in his works.

Under Napoleon III, an ancient stone temple crowns the summit, adding to its majesty.

Today, the Donon can be explored via an archaeological trail marked with explanatory panels, inviting visitors to uncover the secrets of this historically rich site.
