The Flap Dam

Located at the mouth of the Sauer into the Rhine, this exceptional structure in Europe is distinguished by its unique operation.

Outside of flood periods, it lies horizontally in the water in the form of a flap.

When water levels rise, it is raised vertically using hydraulic jacks each with an impressive force of 350 tons, acting as a dam to protect the surrounding areas.

Measuring 60 meters long and 7 meters high, this mobile dam combines technical innovation and adaptation to river conditions.
