The Former Episcopal Residence
The Episcopal Residence of Lauterbourg, built in 1592 and restored in 1716, embodies the elegance of Renaissance architecture.
Its entrance is marked by a Latin inscription carved on the pediment: Pax intrantibus, Salut exeuntibus ("Peace to those entering, greetings to those leaving"), warmly welcoming visitors.
The wrought iron initials, visible on the band encircling the building, evoke its historical connection to the bailiwick of the episcopal principality of Speyer. Today, this emblematic monument houses the town's elementary school, thus continuing its role at the heart of local life.
