The Graves of the Lancaster Bombers

This site honors the seven British and Canadian airmen whose aircraft, a four-engine Avro Lancaster bomber from the Royal Air Force's 7th Squadron, crashed on the night of April 24-25, 1944.

Their plane, serial number JB 719, went down 500 meters from this memorial in the train station district.

The crew was on a bombing mission over Karlsruhe when it collided with another Lancaster from the 626th Squadron. The second plane crashed in Haguenau, causing seven more casualties.

Among the first bomber's crew, pilot P/O Brenton was Canadian, while the other six airmen were British.
