The Ill Baths
The Ill Baths were established in 1886 in the various branches of the river near the Brunstatt bridge. Originating from the Jura, the Ill enters the Alsace plain at the Illberg hill before splitting into several waterways. At the beginning of the 20th century, three outdoor public baths were created along the Ill, providing places of relaxation and leisure for the residents. These facilities preceded by nearly forty years the opening of Mulhouse's first large swimming pool, inaugurated in 1925 on Pierre and Marie Curie Street. Near the Ill Baths, the German army also set up military baths intended for regiments stationed in Mulhouse.
